“Board selects new leadership team following recent town election“
At Tuesday night’s Select Board meeting, Melissa Murphy was elected as the new Chair of the Reading Select Board, while Karen Rose-Gillis was chosen to serve as Vice Chair.
The board held its annual reorganization meeting following the recent town election. Outgoing Chair Chris Haley passed the gavel to Town Manager Jayne Wellman to oversee the nomination process. Haley nominated Melissa Murphy for Chair, with the motion seconded by newly elected board member Sal Bramante. Karen Herrick then placed Karen Rose-Gillis’s name in nomination, which was also seconded by Bramante.
After nominations closed, the board voted by roll call. Melissa Murphy received the support of Murphy, Haley, and Bramante, while Karen Rose-Gillis received votes from herself and Herrick. Murphy was declared the winner and elected Chair.
Immediately following the vote, Haley called for an acclamation to affirm the board’s unanimous support for Murphy as Chair. The motion passed 5-0.
The board then turned to the Vice Chair position. Sal Bramante nominated Karen Rose-Gillis, with Melissa Murphy providing the second. With no other nominations, Karen Rose-Gillis was elected Vice Chair by a unanimous vote.
The Select Board’s next regularly scheduled meeting is set for Monday, May 12th. Prior to that, the board will hold its annual retreat on Saturday, May 2nd in Lynnfield.
