Another Italian restaurant is rumored to be taking their place
Following Bertucci’s third bankruptcy filing since 2018, many Massachusetts locations closed in April, but the Bertucci’s Restaurant on Walkers Brook Drive in Reading stayed open until today. The Somerville-based Italian chain recently closed five other locations in the state, attributing the closures to inflation, rising labor costs, and changing consumer habits. This week, however, patrons of the Reading location encountered a sign on the door announcing its closure:
Bertucci’s has closed at this site. Please visit our nearest locations: Chelmsford: 14 Littleton Road, Medford: 4054 Mystic Valley Parkway, Waltham: 475 Winter Street. A new restaurant will be opening here in January. We look forward to seeing you then.

Toscana Ristorante (locations in Peabody and Beverly) is rumored to be the replacement restaurant, marking a fresh chapter for the popular retail plaza. While Bertucci’s had long been a staple for Italian dining in the area, its closure—part of a broader restructuring—has paved the way for Toscana to bring its own brand of upscale Italian cuisine to the community.
We’ll be sure to update you if and when the rumor is confirmed.
