💰 Where Your Tax Dollars Go: Explore the Override, the Calculator & Seven Years of Town Budgets

On November 3, Reading voters will decide a $6,500,000 Proposition 2½ override and our Override 2026 page puts everything you need in one place. Type your address into the tax calculator and it pulls your home's actual assessed value, then shows the impact down to the dollar: what's added to your bill per year, per month, and per quarter, with optional toggles for the CPA ballot question and the Killam and ReCAL building projects already arriving on tax bills. For the average single-family home, the override adds about $736 a year, roughly $61 a month. The same page carries a countdown to Election Day, every override-related meeting with agendas, packets, minutes, RCTV video and AI recaps, plus all of our override coverage as it publishes.

An override is ultimately a question about the town budget, so see the budget for yourself. Our Budgets page breaks down seven years of Reading's budgets, FY2021 through FY2027, with interactive charts showing where every dollar comes from, where it goes, and what's changing: every town department, school cost centers, enrollment and staffing, benefits and pensions, debt and capital plans. A comparison tool puts any two years side by side to show exactly where the money moved, and Recap AI answers questions straight from the town's own budget books. Ask it anything, from "how much has the school budget grown since COVID?" to "what does the town spend on snow and ice?" Both pages are free, mobile-friendly, and update as new documents and coverage arrive.
