New Reading Community Television (RCTV) Executive Director Deirdre Morales was introduced during the public comment portion of Tuesdayβs Select Board meeting, outlining her vision for expanding community engagement and access to local media.
Morales was introduced by RCTV board member Ron Powell, who welcomed her to the role and highlighted her experience as she begins leading the townβs public access station.
Addressing the board and residents, Morales emphasized RCTVβs role in supporting transparency in local government and providing access to community programming. She described the station as both a broadcast outlet and an educational resource, responsible for recording and airing local government meetings while also offering residents opportunities to create their own content.
As a community media center, our goal is to make sure residents not only have access to local information, but also the tools to tell their own stories,β Morales said.
Morales highlighted the organizationβs open membership model, encouraging residents to get involved by learning how to use production equipment and develop programming. She said RCTV provides training to community members interested in storytelling, journalism, and media production.
She also pointed to expanded resources available at the station, including a podcast studio and educational programming opportunities for both adults and students. These efforts, she said, are aimed at making community media more accessible and interactive.
Morales expressed interest in strengthening engagement with residents and ensuring broader awareness of RCTVβs offerings, positioning the station as a key tool for keeping the public informed on local issues and government activity.
Her introduction marks a leadership transition for the organization as it continues to serve as the townβs primary platform for government meeting coverage and public access programming.
