Claudia Miksen-Fanaras’s Generosity Sparks Major RMHS Renovation
In a remarkable act of generosity and community spirit, Claudia Miksen-Fanaras, an alumna of Reading Memorial High School (RMHS), has donated $200,000 to support a major renovation of the school’s fitness center and athletic training room. The donation, formally accepted by the Reading School Committee during its October 16th meeting, marks the first installment of a transformative $550,000 gift.
Dr. Thomas Milaschewski, Superintendent of Schools, introduced the donation as a visionary contribution that will significantly enhance the high school experience for students, athletes, and the broader community.
This gift will not only revamp our facilities but redefine accessibility and wellness for all students,” he said.
The renovation project includes:
- Fitness Center Upgrades: New equipment from Matrix Fitness, HVAC improvements, new flooring and turf system, fresh paint, mirrors, and branded decals.
- Athletic Training Room Enhancements: Updated medical and rehab equipment, HVAC, flooring, mirrors, and branding.
Construction is scheduled to begin in early December, with the new spaces expected to open to students by January 5, 2026.
Committee members praised the donation’s inclusive design, emphasizing that the facilities will serve all students—not just athletes. Feedback from coaches, PE teachers, and wellness staff has shaped the project to ensure broad accessibility.
This is about health and wellness for every student,” said Chair Shawn Brandt. “It’s fantastic and deeply appreciated.”
Future meetings will include presentations from Claudia Miksen-Fanaras and representatives from Matrix Fitness to showcase design plans. The committee also confirmed that the naming of the renovated spaces will follow the district’s formal policy.
The vote to accept the donation passed unanimously, 6–0.
