By a 5-0 vote, current School Committee Chair Tom Wise, was re-elected chair during last night’s School Committee meeting. During the discussion, Tom mentioned that he wouldn’t accept the nomination (done by Sarah McLaughlin and seconded by Shawn Brandt) if he was not going to be running for re-election in April. The School Committee does not have a policy of not being able to serve as chair during the final year of your term, unlike the Select Board which does. Tom was the only nominee.
Moving to the Vice-Chair vote, Carla Nazzaro expressed interest in the role but would yield to anyone else on the committee due to a “balance of power”. Chuck Robinson asked if anyone knew if Erin Gaffen wanted to continue in the role as vice-chair for cohesiveness, but no members spoke to her about it due to OML concerns. Erin Gaffen was absent from last night’s meeting due to a previous conflict that was scheduled a while back.
The School Committee decided it was best to delay the Vice-Chair vote until their next meeting. The committee then adjourned at 9:54pm.
