To the Editor:
I’m writing to introduce myself as a newly appointed member of the Board of Directors of RCTV Studios. I appreciate the Town of Reading Select Board’s confidence in me, and I take seriously the opportunity to help strengthen this long-standing community institution.
For more than 30 years, RCTV has provided public access programming and hands-on media education to Reading residents. It has supported free expression, civic dialogue, and media literacy in our town. But I also recognize that the media landscape is changing — with more audiences turning to streaming platforms, podcasts, and on-demand content — and that RCTV must continue to adapt in order to stay relevant and accessible.
I understand the Select Board’s call for stronger communication and a clearer commitment to innovation — and I fully support those goals. As a new board member, I’m energized by the opportunity to help RCTV grow in ways that make it more transparent, more responsive, and more forward-thinking. There’s exciting potential ahead, and I’m committed to being part of that progress.
As a Town Meeting Member from Precinct 3, I hold open office hours on the lower floor of the Reading Public Library from 10:00 to 12:00 on the first Saturday of every month. I’d be glad to hear from anyone interested in the future of community media in Reading — especially the important role RCTV can continue to play. Whether you have ideas, questions, or simply want to share your thoughts, you’re always welcome to stop by.
Gratefully,
Ron Powell
