The following was sent to us by a reader –

On Monday April 28, Town Meeting members will vote on a warrant article that will impact recreation programs in Reading for many years – funding for pickleball courts.

The Reading Pickleball Players Association (RPPA) supports this warrant article and asks Town Meeting members to vote YES on this important issue.

Pickleball in Reading is already popular but is growing exponentially every year and is attracting much younger players – including players from the Reading schools.

The courts in Reading are overcrowded, in need of serious repair, are not accessible, and at the end of the day simply do meet the needs of the pickleball players or the town. Adjacent towns have responded by building new courts.

The Reading Recreation Department worked tirelessly with RPPA and the pickleball community to analyze several options, concluding that seven accessible courts located on Symonds Way (adjacent to Burbank Arena) would meet the needs of the town and community.

All town departments have supported the project and the RPPA has raised over 200,000 dollars to help fund the courts.

Pickleball is a vital outlet for players of all ages and abilities, providing exercise and social interaction. Reading will be well-served by adding these much needed additional recreational opportunities.

Please vote YES on Warrant 14 for new pickleball courts.

Thank You

RPPA Board Members
Michael Coltman (President) – Precinct 4
Judy Coltman – Precinct 4
Peter Lydecker (Treasurer) – Precinct 1
Eileen Manning – Precinct – 5
Joe McHugh – Precinct 5
Robert Rio – Precinct 5
Mary Ann Devlin – Precinct 7
