Catching up with friends this weekend about the Select Board candidates, we realized there hasn’t been much information in print about candidate Tony D’Arezzo, although many of his signs are posted around Town. Newcomers may not know much about him.

We know and deeply respect Tony from his seven years on CPDC during meetings on downtown development, as well as his valuable contributions during his long service on Town Meeting. He is a man of integrity and professionalism. His knowledge on planning matters and his attention to details—will be strengths for serving on the Select Board.

We have watched or attended many meetings of the CPDC. Tony always came well- prepared and was highly effective. He showed a penchant for catching important details and redirecting conversation back to the issue at hand.

For instance, when reviewing the plans for the McDonald’s rebuild, Tony caught something that made a significant impact on mitigating traffic and safety impacts. McDonald’s had proposed three drive-through windows, but Tony noticed that the third one was too close to the sidewalk, failing to meet Town zoning rules. Once Tony caught this, McDonald’s cut out the third window rather than seek a waiver from the Zoning Board of Appeals.

In general through his service on CPDC, Tony pushed untiringly to uphold what would be best for the Reading community, taking into account the character, safety and sense of place we all seek here in Town.

Tony values teamwork and listening to differing opinions and feels called to bring his skill set and wisdom to the curating of Reading’s growth and identity. We encourage you to learn more about Tony at: http://www.votedarezzo.org and cast your vote for him on or before April 8.
