READING — Chief David Clark reports that Reading Police arrested a New Hampshire man with operating under the influence and drug possession charges following a traffic stop on Monday night.
DANIEL DEVLIN, AGE 41, of HUDSON, N.H., was arrested and charged with:
- Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence of Drugs
- Marked Lanes Violation
- Possession of a Class E Substance
- Possession of a Class A Substance
On Monday, Jan. 20, at about 10:15 p.m., Reading Police on patrol in the area of 757 Main St. observed a vehicle stopped in the middle of the road.
Once the vehicle continued driving, officers observed it driving erratically, at which point they activated their emergency lights and pulled the vehicle over.
While speaking to the driver of the vehicle, identified as DEVLIN, officers noticed that his pupils were pinpointed. Officers also observed him holding an unidentified object and reaching into the back of the vehicle several times.
Officers asked DEVLIN to exit the vehicle, at which time they observed him appearing to struggle to keep his balance.
An initial investigation, including field sobriety tests, determined that DEVLIN was operating under the influence of drugs.
DEVLIN was arrested without incident.
During a subsequent investigation and a search of DEVLIN‘s vehicle, officers found residue of a brown powdery substance and a capped needle with a brown-like liquid both believed to be heroin and an 8 mg film of Suboxone.
DEVLIN was arraigned in Woburn District Court on Tuesday, Jan. 21.
All suspects are innocent until proven guilty.
