My name is Michael Guarino, and I am currently a Special Education Teacher and a Special Education Academy Lead at Minuteman High School.  I grew up in Reading where I went to school in reading from Grade 1 to Grade 12.  In fact, my first 6 years of teaching was as a special education teacher at Reading Memorial High School and my last 11 years were at Minuteman High School.

I wholeheartedly recommend my brother, Dana Guarino, for the position on the school board.  Having been close to Dana throughout his life, I am confident that his dedication to both sports and academics, combined with his unwavering work ethic, make him an ideal candidate for this important role.  I saw this firsthand based on the work and dedication my brother put into his academics and sports at Reading Memorial High School where he was captain of the football team while making honor roll throughout high school.  After graduating from Reading Memorial High, Dana attended Springfield College where he played football his freshman year and chose to pursue a career in the medical field, which prompted him to prioritize his schoolwork and dedicate more time to academics.  Dana successfully achieved his career goal, graduating college to become a Physician Assistant and continues working at the same practice since he graduated from graduate school.

Although Dana has accomplished so much through his academics, sports and career, I believe that his greatest accomplishment is being able to be a loving husband and father to his wife and three children.  As a father, Dana instills the values of integrity, accountability, diligence, perseverance, discipline, love and compassion, which are the values we were taught by our parents growing up.  Dana makes sure that his family is his number one priority.  He makes sure to attend all of his children’s school meetings and presentations as well as their sports and extracurricular activities.  I feel that this is my brother’s greatest quality – spending time with his family and putting their needs first is more important to him than acquiring wealth and material possessions.

Similarly to the effort, commitment and unwavering dedication in his family life, Dana brings many outstanding qualities to his professional career as a physician assistant.  As a medical professional, Dana has showcased both his medical expertise as well as his capacity to collaborate effectively with colleagues and provide compassionate care to his patients.  Dana’s role as a physician assistant requires a unique set of skills, including empathy, resilience, and ability to adapt to ever changing situations.  Additionally, Dana’s longevity at his current practice since he graduated from graduate school shows Dana’s commitment and loyalty.

Dana’s ability to balance the demands of his professional career and family along with currently desiring to become actively involved in his community speak volumes about his time management skills and his passion and commitment to make a positive impact in the lives of those around him.

What sets Dana apart is his steadfast determination to overcome challenges not just in the professional and personal life, but in contributing to the betterment of the broader community.  His commitment to continuous improvement, coupled with his compassion and dedication to the well-being of others, would make him a valuable asset to the school board.  I am confident that Dana will bring a holistic perspective, encompassing family, professional, and community values to the school committee position.  His unique combination of achievements, resilience and integrity make him an outstanding candidate for this role, and I believe he will make significant contributions to the continued growth and success of our educational community. Please vote on March 5 for Dana Guarino for school committee.

 Sincerely,

Michael Guarino
