During the Select Boards earlier meeting this month, the board voted to combine the typical April local election with the State’s Presidential Primary on March 5th, 2024. A cost savings of about $10,000 and higher voter turnout were the primary reasons cited in the 5-0 decision. Town Clerk Laura Gemme, asked that if the board did combine the election, that board members reach out to the public and recruit additional poll workers for that day.

We have subsequently updated our site for the 2024 local election on the homepage and directly here. You can check out next year’s candidates and/or to submit candidate information. You can also find additional election news and links to sample ballots when available.

If you would like to apply to be a poll worker on election day, March 5th 2024 or for any election related questions, please reach out to Town Clerk Laura Gemme at lgemme@ci.reading.ma.us

Nomination papers for the following elected positions are now available at the Town Clerk’s Office. Candidates for elected offices must obtain at least fifty (50) certified signatures to qualify for placement on the March 5th ballot. Town Meeting candidates must obtain at least ten (10) certified signatures within their own precinct. Nomination papers are available until 5:00 PM on Monday, January 15, 2024. Nomination papers must be submitted to the Town Clerk for certification no later than 5:00 PM on Tuesday, January 16, 2024.
