Last night, fierce high winds ripped through Reading, knocking out power across large parts of town and leaving trees down everywhere, from residential streets to major roads like Van Norden Road, where massive trunks blocked travel and created hazardous conditions. The Reading Police Department posted an update: “We are aware of power outages in the center of town. RMLD has been notified and is addressing the situation.” Thankfully, crews worked quickly—Power has been restored in most areas this morning, though residents are still clearing debris and assessing damage from uprooted trees and scattered branches.
Principals of schools also shared an update: “Due to the high winds overnight, our Department of Public Works team will be on campus this morning to assess the trees near the playground area and ensure that all are safe and secure.”
