“School Committee members agree experience and institutional knowledge are critical as project moves forward“
At their latest meeting, the School Committee reached a consensus to maintain continuity on the Killam School Building Committee, agreeing that Vice Chair Carla Nazzaro should continue serving as the committee’s School Committee designee. The discussion took place during the committee’s Feb. 12th meeting and focused on aligning local representation with Massachusetts School Building Authority requirements while preserving institutional knowledge.
Chair Shawn Brandt and Vice Chair Carla Nazzaro led the brief discussion, noting that the MSBA requires only one School Committee member to serve on a school building committee. Members agreed that keeping Nazzaro in that role would provide stability and consistency as planning and oversight for the Killam School project continue, especially given that Carla is not seeking a third term on the School Committee.
Several committee members expressed broad agreement that continuity is especially important for long-term capital projects, where familiarity with prior decisions, timelines, and state processes can help avoid delays or missteps. Maintaining an experienced representative was seen as a practical way to support the project’s progress without making changes that could disrupt ongoing work.
Because the MSBA guidelines were already being met and there was no disagreement among members, no formal vote was required. The consensus decision allows the Killam School Building Committee to move forward with an established structure, reinforcing the School Committee’s intent to support steady leadership as the project advances into its next phases.
