Massachusetts’ Best Cider Doughnut Found in Reading’s Backyard
In a sweet victory for local flavor, Calareso’s Farm Stand & Garden Center has been named the #1 cider doughnut destination in Massachusetts by MassLive food writer Nick O’Malley, who recently embarked on a statewide search for the best fall treat.
O’Malley’s article, which ranks the top 17 cider doughnuts from farm stands, orchards, and country stores across the Commonwealth, praised Calareso’s for delivering “an unparalleled blast of flavor.” According to the review, just one bite of their cider doughnut was enough to prompt a double-take and the realization that “this doughnut is in a class of its own.”
The doughnuts, priced at an affordable $5.99 for a half dozen, were lauded for their light and airy texture, buttery richness, and a flavor profile bursting with caramel, cinnamon, sugar, and fall spices. O’Malley described the experience as “a hurricane of apple pie rolling across your palate,” a poetic nod to the seasonal magic packed into each bite.

Calareso’s beat out other beloved institutions like Douglas Orchard & Farm in Douglas, Honey Pot Hill Orchards in Stow, and Smolak Farms in North Andover, all of which made the top five. The rankings focused on flavor, texture, and presentation, with Calareso’s excelling in every category.
In case you didn’t know, Cal’s Creamery located next door, uses Calareso’s donuts for their Fall special Apple Cider Donut Sundae & Donut Float. I reviewed them all the way back in 2022 for an article located here.

This recognition is a proud moment for Reading, putting the town on the map for fall food lovers across New England. Whether you’re a longtime local or a leaf-peeping visitor, Calareso’s cider doughnuts are now a must-try seasonal staple. So grab your flannel, hit the road, and treat yourself to the best cider doughnut Massachusetts has to offer right here in Reading!
Calareso’s is located at 100 Main St, Reading.
