It’s mid-July, and that means it’s time for the Reading Lions Club and The Friends of Reading Recreation (FORR) annual charity 5K Road Race and 1 Mile Walk. The Journey For Sight will take place Thursday evening, July 18th, at 6:30 pm, beginning and ending at Memorial Park on Harrison Street in Reading. Join us for this worthwhile event and have a fun family evening right here in the heart of Reading.
Pre-register online at https://runsignup.com/ReadingLionsFORR5k through July 17. $30 for pre-registration. $20 for ages 17 and under. Don’t run? Register for the 1 Mile Walk to participate and join in the support for a great charity. In-person registration is available on race day from 5:00-6:15 pm. $35 for race day registration. $25 for ages 17 and under.
All proceeds from the race will be donated to the Massachusetts Lions Eye Research Fund (MLERF) and other vision-related charities which finance basic eye research at world renowned institutions such as the Mass. Eye and Ear right here in Boston. The Reading Lions Club has donated over $350,000 from the proceeds of this race to eye research, and we are excited to continue these efforts in conjunction with the Friends of Reading Recreation.
Race T-shirts will be given out to the first 250 entrants, and awards will be presented to the overall winners, as well as the top 3 in age categories: 19 and under, 20-29, 30-39, 40- 49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, and 80+. Runners of all ages are welcome! A DJ will keep things festive and refreshments, pizza, and water will be available post-race as well as some great raffle prizes.
