Dear Editor,
Kudos to the Reading Turnback Committee(RTC) for organizing, RCTV for recording , and The Select Board for hosting this important meeting. The RCTV recording of the meeting is here: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1F5CyeYY3Fg). Please take a few minutes and watch it! The Committee’s well run campaign to educate the Reading Community about the MBTA Turnback Project that will affect so many Reading Residents is to be congratulated. The information was well researched and clearly presented by people that have done their homework and put in hours of work on behalf of the town. As you will see, the presentation by the MBTA did not provide a definitive response as to what actions they would take to mitigate or eliminate any of the issues but the representatives were well spoken and not as defensive or abrupt as they were in the first meetings.
The MBTA stated, at the meeting, that they were there to listen, learn, and incorporate feedback into future planning. It was disappointing to learn from the Select Board that there is no way for Reading to stop this project but it was encouraging to see a unanimous vote from the Select Board members to NOT to support this MBTA project as currently presented. There were a myriad of reasons not to support this project but no one spoke out against the MBTA but most agreed that this was not the right time or location for a project of this type for the Reading Community.
