Bunratty Tavern (Bunratty’s to us), is a beloved Irish pub nestled in the heart of Reading, recently earned a spotlight on the popular television show Phantom Gourmet, and it’s easy to see why. With its authentic Irish charm, hearty comfort food, and warm hospitality, the tavern offers a true taste of the Emerald Isle right here in our small town.
From the moment you step inside, Bunratty’s transports guests to Ireland with its antique décor—many pieces imported directly from the homeland—and a menu steeped in family tradition. Owner Eilish Havey, who grew up on Bunratty Road in Dublin, brings generations of culinary heritage to the table, with recipes passed down from his mother and grandmother.
The menu is a celebration of both Irish and American flavors. Signature dishes include the loaded shepherd’s pie potato skins, corned beef spring rolls with creamy horseradish cheddar sauce, and the Bunratty hot corned beef sandwich, slow-braised for four hours and served on a crispy baked roll.
For those who can’t decide, the Irish Sampler (my favorite) offers a trio of favorites: rich beef stew, country cottage pie, and classic shepherd’s pie. And for a local twist, the grilled marinated steak tips—a New England tavern staple—are a crowd favorite, marinated in a sweet chili blend and served with seasoned vegetables.
“Traditional Irish pubs are always about families meeting, getting together, and having a good time,” Havey shared in the video below. “It’s about welcoming people in and making sure they leave happy, full, and satisfied.”
With its recent feature on the Phantom Gourmet, Bunratty Tavern is now on the radar of food lovers across the region. But for us, it’s long been a cherished gem. More than just a restaurant, Bunratty Tavern is a gathering place. Congratulations on your 10 years in Reading!
Bunratty’s is located at 620 Main Street.
