Join Walking Joe and the Reading Lions at the 40th Journey for Sight 5K Road Race—Thursday Evening, July 17!
Reading, MA— Do you know Walking Joe? Joe Coughlin, a Lion for more than 21 years and a former town employee, may often be seen on walks around town. But, in June and July, Joe dedicates his walks to the Journey for Sight Road Race, gathering donations with each step. Thanks to the generosity of friends and town residents, last year Walking Joe brought in $3,800, and since 2021, more than $15,000!
When you donate to Walking Joe or register to run, you’re helping dedicated researchers find cures for blindness and other eye diseases. Over the past 40 years, your donations and contributions from our generous sponsors have totaled more than $350,000 for the Massachusetts Lions Eye Research Fund and other organizations that support vision. The Journey for Sight 5k Road Race and 1 Mile Walk starts and finishes in Memorial Park. There’s plenty of refreshments and pizza after the race. We also have raffle prizes for runners and prizes for the top finishers, and in each age category. To celebrate 40 years of running for good, this year we have a special technical shirt for the first 250 registrants. We’ll see you at Memorial Park!
