Things didn’t start off quite the way they planned it, but nobody could have asked for a better ending… The game went scoreless into halftime and by the end of the 3rd, the Rockets would be in the hole 1-0 vs Norwood. That would be the last of Norwood’s scoring on the day though. Early into the 4th quarter, Reading tied it up on a goal by Danielle Bowers and the score would remain tied 1-1 into overtime.
Reading won the coin toss in the 7 on 7 overtime quarter and found themselves in a similar position as their semi-finals home game against Canton. With a pass from Autumn Mathews at the 5:37 mark, Ava Goodwin put it the game winner and sent the Rockets sideline into a frenzy with their 2-1 overtime victory. And with that, the Reading Memorial Rockets are your 2023 Division 2 MIAA State Champions!
