The Killam School Building Committee met this past Monday January 22nd, 2024 at 7pm.
There was a vote of acknowledgment on the Designer Amendments 1 thru 5 from the committee. These Amendments were signed by the Town Manager in December in order to progress the work for the feasibility study. The funding for these amendments were included in the $2.2 million Feasibility and Schematic Design packet approved by Town Meeting. Moving forward the KSBC will approve funding items prior to work being done. Please see the Contract, PO and Change Order Process outlined in the 1-22-24 packet.
The committee received updates from the three working groups:
- The Communications group had its first meeting and will meet weekly for the foreseeable future.
- The Education Leadership Team (ELT) has been meeting regularly with the designer and the education consultant. The group has visited 3 new schools, met with staff, and is working on the Educational Program which will be submitted to the MSBA as part of the PDP on May 20th.
- The Sustainability working group will meet the week of 1-29-24 for their initial meeting.
The committee assigned a designee/designees to act on behalf of the committee when time sensitive changes have to be made (typically in the field during construction). The dollar amount for the change order must be under $50,000 and the designees will be the Town Manager and the Director of Facilities. If both individuals are available then they should collaborate to make the decision, but if only one person is available then the decision could be made by the available individual. This decision would be recommended by the OPM and their designee/designees would follow the process outlined by Colliers. All change orders will be brought to the building committee at the next meeting.
