The Killam School Building Committee met this past Monday, December 4, 2023 at 7pm but here is a quick recap of what has transpired over the past few weeks since their October meeting:

The Designer Selection Panel (DSP), which consists of 13 members from the MSBA board and 3 members from the district (Fidel Maltez, Tom Milaschewski and Carla Nazzaro) met on November 7th and 21st.

The district received 4 submittals for our Request for Services and on November 7th, the Designer Selection Panel application review took place.  During that meeting, the committee created a β€œshort list” of firms to be interviewed.  Submittals were received from Lavallee Brensinger Architects, Finegold Alexander Architects, Studio G Architects and Raymond Design Associates, Inc.  Four very qualified firms.  During that meeting it was decided to cut Raymond Design Associates because of capacity issues.  They currently have quite a bit of work.

On November 21st, the 3 remaining firms did a 30-minute presentation and were interviewed by the DSP.Β  All three firms are very qualified, and the district appreciates their interest in our project.Β  The vote was very close, and the district was pleased that Lavallee Brensinger Architects (LBA) received the most points.Β

The district has negotiated and will momentarily contract with LBA as the designer for the feasibility and schematic design phase of the project.  The designer-based contract is for $850,000.

At the December 4, 2023 KSBC meeting, LBA introduced their team and did a presentation on the project.  The committee voted to recommend that the Town Manager execute a contract with LBA.  The vote was 7-0.

There was discussion about the project website and the committee will be working on setting up informal working groups to aid the designer.  The next KSBC meeting is scheduled for January 8, 2024 at 7PM.
