READING โ€” Chief David Clark is pleased to share that members of the Reading Police Department will once again fundraise for Home Base Veteran and Family Care’s suicide prevention initiatives.

In honor of National Suicide Prevention Month, which takes place throughout September, Home Base launched Save a Life September, a campaign of fundraising and awareness initiatives aimed to increase support for Military-connected and first-responder suicide prevention.

Beginning in September, the Reading Police Department will be fundraising for Home Base’s No Shave November for the ninth consecutive year.

Though the Department allows for facial hair to be worn year-round, participating members of the Department will continue to support Home Base’s efforts to provide critical, life-saving care to Veteran’s and their families by each pledging to donate $100 to the organization.

Additionally, the Department is selling Veteran patches for $10. Those who wish to obtain a patch can either send proof of donation through the Reading Police Department page on Home Base’s website or a check made out to Home Base with a self-addressed envelope to the Reading Police Department, 15 Union St., Reading, MA 01867, to the attention of Officer Kristen O’Shaughnessy. Officer O’Shaughnessy will mail the patch or patches back to those who request them.

In 2023, the Reading Police Department raised more than $3,200 between Department and community donations.

“Home Base is an outstanding organization that does important work in providing care to Veterans,” said Chief Clark. “This is a topic that is important to the Department, and we are honored to support the work that they do.”

About Home Base

Home Base is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting Veterans and their families through direct clinical care, wellness, education and research. Since 2009, the organization has served over 35,000 Veterans and their family members and has trained over 85,000 clinicians nationwide.
