The former Walgreens building at 17 Harnden St is officially off the market. Jala Hospitality LLC, out of Upper Saddle River New Jersey, purchased the property officially on December 13th for $6.5 million dollars.

One thing of note, the property appears to have been negotiated well before the most recent Select Board meeting discussing the property as the quitclaim deed is dated December 12th and was notarized on December 8th. The new owner also registered as a Massachusetts Foreign Limited Liability Company on December 1st.

It’s unclear if there are any plans for the property but Jala Hospitality LLC is characterized as a Hotels and Motels business.

The Town of Reading held the first public meeting on the site for a potential senior/community center on November 1st. You can read more about that here. The town does have more options available: the former Rite Aid building at 25 Haven Street is still listed for sale at a much lower price tag of $2.7 million, renovating the existing senior center or potentially Oakland Rd / Symonds Way being developed.
