Soon after graduating\, she began studying watercolor with David Millard. Later\, she continued her studies with Margaret Laurie and Betty Lou Schlemm. Karen is able to draw just about anything from memory\, a talent she attributes to her many years of keeping a journal with sketches. Her paintings regularly win awards at local shows. \nKaren states\, “I can put an idea into an easy-to-understand\, visual form\, whether it’s a cartoon\, a diagram\, a series of illustrations\, or a full-scale painted realistic vision.” Karen uses many styles and subjects for her work – line drawings in pencil or pen\, watercolor botanicals\, buildings (both interior and exterior)\, and portraits of people and animals. She feels that watercolors are her best medium because they are liberating and natural. Rosalie lives on Cape Ann\, where natural beauty abounds and is home to her creative inspiration. She has been working with watercolor and oil paints for almost two decades\, expressing a love for the landscape of her home and abroad. This reverence for her surroundings brings her canvas and brushes “en plein air” allowing the energy of the experience to lead her creative process. Michele’s bold watercolors are an attempt to try to capture the energy and fleeting moment of her experience. If she travels\, her easel travels with her so that any opportunities of inspiration are not wasted. Michele has studied and taken workshops with several famous contemporary artists. DESCRIPTION:Reading Art Association President Rick Corbett will be doing a demonstration at the First Congregational Church on Woburn Street in Reading. Rick will demonstrate his hyper-realistic graphite technique using graphite pencil. The demo will start at 7:30 PM on February 14\, 2024. The entrance to the demo is the middle side door on Sanborn Street. \nMore details about the demo and directions to the Church are on the RAA website\, www.readingart.org \nInitially\, Rick wanted to be an architect\, but his plans changed\, and he became interested in realistic art. Rick spent hours studying the Old Masters. He would sit for hours copying their works in pencil. \nRick is a member of many local art associations and has won many awards. Paying your dues for the year gets your work into the show. The annual dues are now $30 per year\, and were due in September.
